Dreaming Of Horses

by Cowgirl on March 20, 2013 · 1 comment

Our third child was born in January. Being pregnant all last summer really put a stop to my riding. I have ridden horses while pregnant, but of the ones we have now, only one is deemed safe enough by my husband for me to ride while carrying a child, and it has just been so busy we have done nothing with the horses except feed them and try to maintain their health through the winter.

A Never Ending August

by Cowgirl on August 23, 2011

When I was a kid, my sisters and I would go out at dusk and ride horses in the summertime. It was usually too hot during the day to enjoy riding, and though we often rode anyway because the ranch work required us to, the evening rides were always the fun ones. We would ride […]

Spider

Saying Goodbye to a Horse

by Cowgirl on March 10, 2011

One of the hardest things in the world is saying goodbye to a pet or animal that you love. I have lost several horses during my life, and each occurrence was something I felt I would never quit hurting over. So much of grief involves the frustration of being helpless to remedy the situation

White World

by Cowgirl on January 24, 2011

I stepped outside this morning At nearly half past eight. The sun had not yet awakened, Though the morning hours were late. I stood upon the doorstep And wondered at the sight Of the million, trillion snowflakes That had fallen in the night. I shuffled to the horse barn, Snow almost blocked the trail. The […]

Certifiably crazy, that’s me. It’s the dead of winter, a foot of snow on the ground, I’ve got tank heaters running up an electric bill, just two round bales left before we have to buy more, and five horses out there eating. And I want to buy another horse.
